StillFrame Cinema is an audiovisual project in which image and sound projection becomes either a performance or a kinetic installation. Each screening is a separate, one-of-a-kind event, shaped by the specific character of the space, its context, and the audience gathered around the projection devices. "Optical theatre," synesthetic combinations of sound and image, and above all the idea of "Expanded Cinema" are direct traditions that find continuation in the work of the kinoMANUAL duo.
Aga Jarząb and Maciek Bączyk use old slide projectors, prisms, glass, and slow-turning discs to generate colorful, moving compositions. The name StillFrame Cinema reflects the method by which these compositions are created. Individual, static slides—cut from black paper and projected both on and beyond the screen—form a hypnotic, multi-channel projection. Its unfolding is interwoven with live sound performance. At the heart of the performance lies a shared immersion in moving image and sound.
