A humorous look behind the scenes of Eliška Brtnická’s DIY circus.
How do you write a grant application at a table with no legs? How do you use a jigsaw to round off the edges? How do you explain your artistic vision in bureaucratic language?
The acrobat explores the themes of systems, bureaucracy, and the associated absurdities of the creative process. She asks what it means to be a recognized artist. She invites the audience into her studio, sharing her own experiences as well as the testimonies of her colleagues. She offers a glimpse into the preparation process and what goes on behind the scenes. She combines physical performance with documentary texts and AI-generated texts as a contribution to the debate on the sustainability of creative work.
A performative statement intended to be presented during a roundtable discussion on the status of the artist, but which did not fit within the given format of the discussion.
