What we do

Motus remains open to independent artists that want to create for you in new ways, surprise and offer innovative ways of looking at things. Performances are presented both in the unique Alfred ve dvoře Theatre and elsewhere. Every year artists create up to six performance works, selected from submissions to an annual open call. Two such projects are developed over longer-term residencies with heightened condititions for artists. Each year’s program is arranged around a specific cluster of themes:

2011 is the year of childhood, adolescence and /or family

2012 is devoted to projects connected to themes of the natural world / the political world

2013 is devoted to projects connected to the themes of old age, death, and /or memory.

In 2014 we especially welcome projects connected to themes of identity (personal, national, cultural, and other).

Other activities:

In addition to helping create and present new performances, live art works and other creative acts, Motus presents selected projects from other Czech cities, European and international projects, runs debates and workshops, and initiates events beyond theatre: cultural development activities for an open, democratic society.

Selected projects from other Czech cities, International Projects
Motus presents remarkable projects created by artists from other Czech cities as well as inspirational international works. Our long-term goal is to engage in co-creation and exchange of projects, especially with artists from other post-communist countries.

One-off Site Specific Performances and Events
Every year we produce at least one project “outside the theatre“, such as the Mexican Day of the Dead event in Stromovka park for children and families. Such events keep us close in touch with our local community. Motus was also a co-initiator of the project Car Free Day, regularly attends public space experiments Different City Experience and from 2013 Motus co-organizes its spring variant called František’s loves.

Work for Children, Work by Children
It is a also a key goal of Motus to present new work created for children.
In the morning hours various performances are presented for secondary schools, primary schools and kindergartens. A regular guest is the Divadelta group, mostly performing for primary and secondary school groups. Divadelta makes use of conflict between characters to reflect contemporary issues and problems, encouraging audience members to participate actively in bringing forward solutions.
Motus also runs a successful theatre studio called ALFRED JUNIOR entailing weekly devised performance courses for kids.
